The way you described the sauna experience, especially the feeling of the heat being moved around by the towel, was incredibly vivid. It reminded me of a time when I was in a sweat lodge ceremony, and the leader used a similar technique to circulate the heat. It was such a powerful experience, both physically and mentally. It's amazing how something as simple as hot air can have such a profound effect on our well-being.
I can relate to your mindfulness experience and the whole thinking process of "am I doing this right?" And just like you I always come to the conclusion "of course I'm doing it right, it's about the sensations and being in the moment, there is no right or wrong"
Trying to think of how I can relate to this post and since I've never been to Brighton, I'm digging into my own life. I love nothing better than a few days beachside, although I wait until the water's a bit warmer, thank you very much. Not going to apologize for the umpha lumpha currently occupying the big white house because I did nothing to put him there but, as in all things, this, too, shall pass.
The mix of cold plunges, hot showers, and seaside drama gave this piece such a nice balance of relaxation and excitement. Do I need to visit Brighton soon? It sure sounds better than the USA right now, hahaha.
I was recently searching Amazon for a back rest to put in my home sauna and came across this towel on a stick device that looked like it wouldβve been a prepubescent boy bullyβs torture whip. The description for it was exactly what you described, to move the heat around properly inside the sauna. I never wouldβve known. And then two days later you write about such a practice. In exactly the way I thought of it. The universe is conspiring to make me notice these things now.
I love that you have highlighted both Ryanβs and Donβs posts this week. Two of my besties.
All good Teri - plus you have a home sauna. I am beyond jealous except of course technically there is no I so no state of jealousy can actually exist... so all good!!
Iβm a weirdo. I donβt use my sauna to sweat in the nude or a towel. I use the sauna to warm myself up after getting overly chilled in the MN winter cold. The other day, after the wind-chill from the dog walk got me, I went straight to the sauna, fully clothed, and put it on 100 degrees and went in fully clothed until I felt warmed at the bone level again and could leave it without feeling chilled.

Absolutely Alexander. Ironic when you think of all the hot air people spill out of their mouths that is anything but spiritual!
OH yes. Especially as they confuse religion with spirituality.

That actually seems pretty sensible when it's that cold Teri
